How to Install Your Wakeboard Tower
The first step to a better ride is a solid foundation. At Samson Sports, we’ve engineered our towers to be DIY-friendly. You don’t need a specialized shop or a degree in marine engineering to get this done. Most of our customers in and beyond find they can have their tower fully mounted and ready to go in three to four hours using just a drill and basic hand tools.
We provide all the necessary hardware, instructions, and backing plates to ensure your boat’s hull is reinforced and the tower is rock-solid. While every boat is a bit different, the road to a successful installation follows a steady rhythm:
- Measuring: You’ll start by measuring and marking where the mounts will sit on your boat. Accuracy here ensures the tower sits level and square.
- Preparing the Hull: After verifying what’s underneath your fiberglass, you’ll drill the mounting holes. We provide backing plates to distribute the load, preventing stress on your boat’s gel coat.
- Assembling the Frame: You’ll typically assemble the main sections of the tower on the ground or a soft surface to get the geometry right before lifting it onto the boat.
- Securing the Mounts: Once the legs are aligned with your drilled holes, you’ll bolt everything down, ensuring the waterproof seals are tight and the hardware is torqued to spec.

How to Open and Collapse Your Wakeboard Tower
We know that life isn’t always lived on the open water. Whether you’re pulling into a tight slip, passing under a low bridge, or tucking the boat into the garage for the winter, you need flexibility. We design our towers to provide incredible rigidity when they’re up, but effortless folding when they need to come down.
The process is designed to be a one-person job that takes only a couple of minutes:
- Release the Quick-Release Knobs: Locate the primary joints (usually on the rear legs) and loosen the hand-tightened knobs or pins.
- Controlled Descent: Gently lower the upper section of the tower. Many of our designs allow the tower to fold forward or backward, depending on your boat’s configuration.
- Secure for Transport: If you’re trailering, we recommend using a simple strap to ensure the collapsed tower doesn’t bounce or shift.

How to Use Your Wakeboard Tower
Ready to hit the water? Awesome! To get the most out of your gear, it helps to understand the physics at play.
Standard tow pylons or transom hooks pull the rider from a low angle. This creates a downward force that makes it harder to break the surface tension of the water. A wakeboard tower changes the game by raising the tow point roughly 6 to 7 feet above the floor of the boat. This higher pivot point provides an upward pull. When you edge into the wake and pop off the crest, that upward tension helps you stay in the air longer and keeps the rope from “dipping” into the water.
To truly master your new setup, keep these tips in mind:
- Check Your Tension: Always ensure the tow rope is properly seated in the tow spool before the rider signals they are ready.
- Mind the Weight: A tower changes your boat’s center of gravity slightly. Ensure your passengers are distributed evenly to keep your wake clean and your handling predictable.
- Rope Length: With the added height, you might find you prefer a slightly longer rope to find the “sweet spot” of the wake where the transition is cleanest.
How to Customize Your Wakeboard Tower
At Samson Sports, we don’t believe in a “one size fits all” approach. We offer a wide variety of models tailored to different styles and boat shapes. Because we custom-build every tower we sell and maintain a massive library of boat specifications, your tower will look like it was an original factory install. If you’re having a hard time deciding which model fits your vibe, just give us a shout—we love talking shop.
Once your tower is installed, that’s when the real fun starts. Your tower is the ultimate “utility belt” for your boat. You can add:
- Bimini Tops: Crucial for those long summer days when you need a break from the sun without heading to shore.
- Board Racks: Clear the deck clutter by storing your boards up and out of the way.
- Speakers: Elevate the atmosphere with marine-grade audio.
- Lights: LED light bars are ideal for those sunset and evening cruises.
- Mirrors: Mounting a high-definition mirror to your tower gives the driver a clear view of the rider without having to constantly turn around.
